About
I work with stone – carving by hand with traditional tools from my studio in Luddendenfoot. My work ranges from letter-cutting to sculpture, grotesques, and commissioned pieces for homes and gardens across the region.

Stone carver | sculptor
Stone is a quiet material. It takes time, responds to patience, and rewards focus. That’s what draws me to it, and what I try to bring out in the work.
Most of my work is rooted in traditional forms – Celtic knots, Norse patterns, letter-cutting – but I also make pieces that follow their own path. The tools are traditional: hammer, chisel, patience. No power tools, no shortcuts. Just the steady rhythm of hand carving, the way it’s been done for centuries.
Teaching
I run stone carving courses from my workshop, teaching traditional techniques with hammer and chisel. See courses and book →
Commissions
I take commissions for house signs, sculpture, and private memorials – each piece carved by hand to suit its setting. Discuss a commission →
My workshop
The workshop is at Luddendenfoot in the Upper Calder Valley, with the Secret Cafe next door and plenty of parking on-site. It’s a working space – stone dust, tools on benches, pieces in progress – and I’m usually open for courses, commissions, and the occasional open studio day.
If you’re local to West Yorkshire, you’re welcome to visit. If you’re further afield, I’m only an hour from Leeds or Manchester, or three hours from London and happy to discuss projects over email or phone.
